Google LocalRank

 

Google LocalRank is a new introduction of internet giant – Google - into the search engine optimization world. This is something that has been in the think tanks of the minds behind Google for a long time, which has now developed as a patent. In other words, Google LocalRank is a patent, and nothing more or less. It is not known if Google LocalRank will be put into implementation as many patents are granted, and never used.

 

The Google LocalRank could be considered to be an alteration of the Page Rank algorithm. With the Google LocalRank, Google intends to make sure that when it displays indexed pages to the viewers, the pages are displayed while keeping the most important pages first. In other words, it means that for the individual pages that Google calculates will be some value that provides a link between that page and the other pages of the index. That is, it must be said that the Google LocalRank is something plus something else. It provides for a means of topping results for all queries.

 

The idea of the Google LocalRank is to have a ranking, re-ranking and then a weighting to finally give a display. With this what happens is that, first the usual PageRank algorithm is used to find the top ranking (It is not necessary to use the PageRank algorithm; any other similar method is also feasible). The top ranking here is termed as the OldScore. After getting the top ranking score of the page, each page is then passed through a new ranking procedure. This then produces the LocalScore for the page. After getting the LocalScore, it is normalized with the OldScore. A weight is then assigned and multiplied to yield the NewScore of that page. So with this process, you finally have three ranks. The first two ranked documents of the OldScore and LocalScore. The third rank is sort of an average of the OldScore and LocalScore, called the NewRank. The pages are then sorted according to the NewRank and displayed with the ‘NewRanking’ ones on top.

 

So the benefit of Google LocalRank goes to Google as it is now a bit difficult to optimize for Google through illegal means. It gets harder to get a ranking as with the Google LocalRank, each page has to go through not one, but two independent ranking filters. Now you have to optimize for both the LocalRank and PageRank. This is unlike the previous times when it was necessary to optimize for only PageRank.

 

In other words, it can be said that Google LocalRank was concocted with the intention of getting better results.  This system prevents any single author of any web content from having a great effect on the ranking value of the system. With the implementation of Google LocalRank, you will find that it becomes important to choose right sources for your inbound links. Inbound links can be availed from numerous sources. You could get inbound links from blogger sites like blogger.com, some web rings, tripod sites and similar sites on the internet and experience less chances of any cross-linking between sites.

 

In other words, it means that with the Google LocalRank, the possibility of a cross-linking of sites is reduced greatly. Moreover, with Google LocalRank, the mirror sites and other related affiliate programs like the SearchKing type will suffer the most. So to prevent experiencing any loss or harm through the Google LocalRank, it is better to seek incoming links only from ‘quality unrelated sites’ that stay within the same topic area. In fact, with Google LocalRank, as weird as it may seem, the links you get from direct competitors may have a greater value!
