Link Text (Anchor Text)
Link text
is an important factor for consideration in indexing a webpage in a
search index. For a person, who is not internet savvy may find it a
little strange, but, it is a fact that to index in the top positions of
a search engine, you must not only have inbound links but also a good
anchor text. An inbound link is the path to your web page, pointed from
any other web site. And, anchor text is the title of the link, inside
the HTML tags <<A>> and <</A>>. In search engine optimization, SEO, link
text is considered as a significant factor to be taken care of.
Link text
has gained a relevant position in search engine optimization, as a part
of the unique behavior of the search engines. In a keyword search, the
search engines always give preference to the needs of the browser, who
essentially want only the relevant sites to their respective keyword. To
satisfy the requirements of the browser, search engines have programmed
their crawlers in such a manner to locate the most favorable webpage.
But, every webpage developer needs to list their webpage in the top
position of the search engine. The search engine optimization, according
to the algorithmic parameters of the search engine, was the possible
solution, to get listed in the top positions.
Link text
has evolved as an important parameter, when all sites started to adopt
search engine optimization techniques. It became an essential part of
the search engine to include external parameters for evaluation of the
authenticity, as most of the web pages will satisfy the internal factors
and some of the spam sites start pretending to be the ideal ones.
Inbound links were considered as a potential fact to be assigned as the
external factor, as the web page owner cannot solely take decision for
it. However, every inbound list cannot to be considered as the
assessment factor, and essentially the quality of the links has to be
the prime deciding factor. Link text becomes relevant in such a
situation.
Link text
or the anchor text is counted in the evaluation of the quality of the
inbound links since it reflects the authenticity of the links. To get
counted as a positive factor, links from the external site must include
the keyword rich phrases in their anchor text. Generally, a web page
will give link text with the respective keywords, only if it can give
sufficient information, as otherwise it will badly affect their
reputation. This generalization is the reason behind the confidence of
the search engines in the link text of the inbound links.
In search
engine optimization, link text has also become a key factor to be
careful about. The actual rules of search engine analysis are not
clear. But, as it became evident that link text has also became a
parameter in the indexing, the webmasters have the responsibility to
gather the inbound links with keyword rich phrases, from top ranking
sites. Certainly, keyword rich phrase anchor text will give cutting edge
to the web page to differentiate it from other similar web pages and
helps to attain the top positions in the search engine result pages.
