What is Black Hat SEO
You cannot
choose who your relatives are, they just are. Thankfully though, you can
put the fact that you're related to some people in the back of your
mind, well except for family reunions. Then you spend the day trying to
distance yourself from these "black-sheep" members of the family tree.
That is exactly how those who practice White Hat SEO feel about those
who practice Black Hat SEO.
SEO or
search engine optimization involves the use of specialized techniques
designed to raise the ranking of a web page, in relation to the search
engines that rapidly scan them for matches in response to an internet
user's search request. The higher the ranking a page has, the more
likely it is to be selected by a search engine for inclusion in the
results window. Higher rankings are attained by increased use of the
words most often submitted by internet searchers when looking for
something in the content of the web pages that are scanned and read by
search engines. Those words are specific to what the internet user is
searching for, and there are programs that collect lists of the words
most often used in specific internet searches. Money making is the
ultimate purpose of SEO, because the more people seeing the web pages of
legitimate webmasters the more sales and profits there are to be made.
Unfortunately, unscrupulous people are out to make money as well, but
they do not care who may be hurt in the process. Operating with such an
obvious lack of ethics has come to be known as Black Hat SEO.
But what is
Black Hat SEO and why do White Hat SEO followers look down on Black
Hats?
Black Hat
SEO is said to be the practice of attaining higher web page rankings
through the use of techniques that violate the rules of search engine
optimization. This includes "flooding" web pages with the most commonly
used words in a specific search in such a manner that it produces
extremely poor copy for the hapless reader/visitor who has come to this
page expecting to find useful information matching their search request.
Black Hat SEO also involves using techniques that enable the
questionable content of web pages to escape detection of such activity
by a search engine.
If a web
page with questionable content is detected by a search engine it runs
the risk of being permanently excluded from results polls by search
engines. So why would anyone take the risk of having their web page
excluded from the polling of results by a search engine? Because many of
the people who operate under the philosophy of Black Hat SEO are out to
make as many fast-bucks as possible by using throw-away web sites that
can be shutdown quickly and re-opened under new names, but with the same
scams to take as much money from people as they can.
Let it be
said that not everyone who uses what are considered to be Black Hat SEO
tactics are merely con artists out to take advantage of unsuspecting
consumers with the intent to part them from their money without any
consideration to providing quality goods and services to the consumer.
If fact, the techniques commonly used in Black Hat SEO used to be
considered as legitimate as the techniques commonly used in White Hat
SEO, but because scammers have moved their offices from street corners
to the world of the internet, the SEO industry as a whole has been
affected.
Webmasters
with quality goods and services to offer the marketplace may
accidentally fall into Black Hat SEO by misunderstanding how proper
search-engine-optimization is accomplished. If you are new to internet
marketing and SEO, contacting an SEO expert is a good idea. These
experts can help optimize your web site for high-rankings from search
engines, the right way.
