Pay Per Click Advertising

What Is Pay Per Click Advertising?

Pay Per Click advertising allows you to list your site at the top of search engine results pages by advertising the keywords that best describe your product or service. Pay Per Click (PPC) is a dynamic auction-style marketplace where advertisers bid for the exposure to visitors who are searching for particular terms. Pay Per Click listings often are the most visible results on search engines and directories. These search engine listings appear before the organic listings under relevant searches, often in a box at the top of the page. As a result, they are commonly the first links that potential customers see when they receive their search results.

Like all prime real estate, however, these positions are going to cost you. PPC listings are powered by Pay Per Click search engines. As the name indicates, you pay a fixed dollar amount only when a searcher clicks on your listing and connects to your site. You don't pay to list, you only pay for clicks, otherwise known as click-throughs. There are no other hidden costs — you pay only for the direct traffic to your site. The price per click varies, depending on the keywords or phrases you have chosen, and the ranking you want to achieve with your listings (i.e., Is your goal to hit the top of the PPC listings, or are you content with showing up third or fourth on the list?).  The higher you bid on a specific keyword, the higher your advertisement will show up on the results list.

The good news is that the more traffic you begin to derive from your organic SEO, the less you will need to rely on Pay Per Click.

Maintaining a Pay Per Click Campaign

Creating and maintaining a Pay Per Click account is not all that difficult, but it is time consuming.

The first thing you must do is research the guidelines of each search engine where you'd like to advertise. Thing like pricing for listing prices, the cost per click, and where you believe you will receive the greatest return on your investment of time and money.

Next, there is the time involved to set up your PPC advertising account, and determine the keywords and phrases you'd like to advertise. This involves more research, as the most obvious keywords and phrases are almost generally quite expensive and often will not generate the greatest amount of traffic to your Web site.

After you have opened your account, you must monitor your Pay Per Click listings daily in order to maintain your rankings. If a competitor agrees to pay more per click than you currently are paying for your place on the PPC results list, you will be moved out and they will take your place. At that point, you must decide to either bid more than your competitor for that specific spot, or bid for another spot that is more affordable.

Additionally, if you alter your advertising budget or decide to spend less money on sponsored PPC listings in a given month, you must research new key phrases and prices, or your PPC accounts will run out of money and your keyword listings will stop appearing at all.

Contact us any time to inform us about additional sponsored listings you would like to include in any given month. For example, you might be running a promotion or a sale and want related listings under additional key phrases that month.

You will receive a monthly report about where your sponsored listings appeared and how many clicks each sponsored listing received. Our goal is to always manage your money so that your monthly budget is spread evenly across your keywords throughout the month. In order to ensure that your keywords always appear in the proper sponsored listings, our goal is to always leave a minimum of $25 dollars in your account at the end of each month. The exact amount will vary, though, depending on how many clicks you received that month and the cost of each click.
